Manuscript
  • A boat finds a note in a bottle floating in the sea.
  • The note reveals that Judge Wargrave killed them all.
Climax
  • I believe the climax of the story is when they find the note and it reveals that the killer is Justice Wargrave.
The note sums it up pretty nicely, doesn't it? So wouldn't that be the resolution? All the answers are explained and the reader now knows what and how it all happens.
When do the characters start acting skittish (oohh - vocab word)!! When do they go from trying to last on this island until a rescue boat comes to a group of people who realize they may not live to see a rescue boat. HINT: They go to Wargrave and Armstrong for leadership and for logic - which they get for a time. When does that not work anymore? The mood of the story changes then, and everything goes downhill (falling action) from there.

Assignment #2 Due October 22
  • Put a line above Assignment #1; assignment #2 will go above assignment #1.
  • Read chapter two.
  • Choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
  • With your small group, find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
  • Each member of your group must write on his or her WIKI page the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
  • Then, in a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.
  • Read chapter three for Monday, October 25.

our group chose foreshadowing. One example of of it would be "The sea...So peaceful to-day - sometimes so cruel...The sea that dragged you down to its depths. Drowned... Found drowned...Drowned at sea...Drowned-drowned-drowned..." I think that this is foreshadowing because it could mean that someone will drown in the sea. Another example of foreshadowing is this statement by Mr. Blore, "Good thing, perhaps, that one can't foresee the future..."We thought that this means that the old man that talked to Mr. Blore was right and judgement day was coming Mr. Blore in the near future..." The third example of foreshadowing is "Queer business when you came to think of it- the whole thing was very queer- very queer..." This means that Fred Narracott has he suspicion that something is not right with the whole thing. He might be a key player in this story because he knows something is queer, very queer. thelast exaple of foreshadowing is the poem every body finds in their bedroom. The words of this poem are:

Ten little Indian boys went out to dine;
One choked his little self and then there were nine.

Nine little Indian boys sat up very late;
One overslept and then there were eight.

Eight little Indian boys travelling in Devon;
One said he'd stay there and then there were seven.

Seven little Indian boys chopping up sticks ;
One chopped himself in halves and then there were six.

Six little Indian boys playing with a hive;
A bumblebee stung one and then there were five.

Five little Indian boys going for law;
One got in Chancery and then there were four.

Four little Indian boys going out to sea;
A red herring swollowed one and then there were three.

Three little Indian boys walking in the zoo;
A big bear hugged one and then there were two.

Two little Indian boys sitting in the sun;
One got fizzled up and then there was one.

One little Indian boy left all alone;
He went and hanged himself and then there were none.
I think this poem is foreshadowing what is going to happen to the guests on the island. Based on what some of these things, some of the guests will die and some will go away. Who knows what might happen, but these guest's luck is not very good right now if this is foreshadowing the events to come.

Your group chose wisely...good examples of foreshadowing.

  • how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?

  • how might the title be a clue to the story?

A narrative is a can be a fiction or non-fiction story that contains a story of an account of events. Narratives can be a writing, speech, poetry, or many others.It is usually told from a charcters or the authors point of view. A novel is a ficticious narrative that is usually significantly longer than a narrative. It portrays many characters and usually in suquencial order.In this case its a mystery and it will be shrouded with conflict and mabye even death. It will keep you inclined with the story because you always want to know what happens next. Since its a
mystery, the title can be a clue because it will probably mean there is death of characters or a character. It could also mean there are disappearances. What ever it is it will most likely keep you on the edge of our seats!

This story contains a lot of things to predict. I think that these people that are invited to go see ths island with a huge mansion that was owned by an American billionare who died. I think they were all invited because they are all murder suspects in the case of the American billionares death. My prediction is they will go through a series of events until someone is found guilty. In the end, I think someone will recieve the estate. This is my educated guess on the story.

Jack - good answers. I especially like your last prediction; it makes sense since the island is such a big media frenzy!
